Botanical Décor will give your space a tropical vibe any time of year, no vacation required. The patterned wallpaper in this guest bedroom (photographed by Roman Ricard) is absolutely swoon-worthy! You can also find botanic curtains, tapestries, throws, pillows and wall art everywhere right now. If you have a green thumb, add a houseplant or two and bring your space to life in an instant…literally!
Farmhouse Style
Farmhouse inspired decor has seen a huge spike online thanks to the wildly successful HGTV show Fixer Upper, starring adorable power couple Chip and Joanna Gaines. This All-American look blends old and new with upcycled accents, rustic metals, neutral color palettes, open family-style spaces and distressed wood pieces.
Global Inspirations
Colorful woven fabrics, embroidered tapestries, bold area rugs, leather poufs, and mixed metals come together in this unique, exotic style. One of the fun aspects of global decor is that there is no such thing as clashing colors or patterns. Mix and match however you please!
Macrame and Crochet Textiles
Macrame has seen a 35 percent increase on Pinterest in the past year and will continue to see an upward climb this spring. From cool curtains to DIY rugs to simple window dressings, this boho-chic trend feels open and airy. Take a look at these 10 Inspiring Projects using Macrame.
DIY Painted baskets: Practicality is in and many home decor enthusiasts are choosing decorative accents with purpose over pretty pieces that aren’t functional. In spaces with limited storage, baskets can be put to use and are anything but boring. They add texture, create an organic aesthetic and will keep your home clutter-free. Yes, please!
Black and White: This two-color combo will continue to surge in modern-transitional home decor. Make this look work (without making it look cheap) by remembering the rule of three–use three items of the same color in one space to keep from overusing any one color. This will also be helpful with mixing in other hues (gray, pink, beige, blue, etc.) and metals.
Lucite furniture: Acrylic and Lucite continue to grow in popularity, but the luxe look often comes with a hefty price tag. Thankfully, Diane at In My Own Style blog has developed a tutorial for getting the glam look for less! Check out her DIY acrylic side table here!
