I am currently in LOVE the distressed/vintage/aged look of things these days. Doesn’t matter what it is – from dressers and buffets to photo frames and magazine baskets. I am totally and undeniably addicted to Pinterest and have tons of favorite craft and DIY blogs that I follow on a daily basis. There is one problem – I am by no means a hard core DIYer. I like the idea but about halfway through (sometimes less than ½ way) I get overwhelmed, bored or too busy with family or work to complete my current project. I don’t do well with prep work and my attention span isn’t very long. However, I’ve found the perfect thing to satisfy my need to express my creativity but in small and manageable doses.
MILK PAINT! This stuff is awesome. Made by a blogger named Miss Mustard Seed you can find some super easy tutorials on her blog at: http://www.missmustardseedsmilkpaint.com/
It’s such a good fit for my project style because there is zero prep work. Just wipe down whatever you plan to paint, mix up the paint and grab a brush! I used two coats – allowing to dry in-between and then use sand paper to “distress” as much or as little as you like. Then seal with a thin coat of furniture wax.
This print used to hang in my Granny’s kitchen for as long as I can remember. After she passed my cousin inherited it and painted the frame this bold black color – she recently turned it over to me and I saw it was the perfect opportunity to try out my distressing abilities.
I also distressed this frame on the fly and added it my light switch (another idea I picked up from Pinterest.)
But my biggest project so far has been the kids’ bathroom cabinets.
